Well after the fist matches my expectations for this game was not too high but the ref Badara Diatta was good in this match, he convinced my, and I think that if we take into account some downs in the last months we could be review be FIFA, he made be the choice they wanted, the experience between the young refs they looked for in Doue or Haimoudi could by found in Diatta.
The game was better than the ones I saw in my previous matches, and Diatta was on that level and ever a bit better, Botswana is not a bad team, and Ghana is not the one we saw in South Africa although they are my favorites to win this AFCON2012
A great physical condition, some strange moves, a consistent foul detection that all is what you may expect in Badara. He gave some good advantages, but one time he forgot his yellow card. The key action of the game was in the second half, something like the 65 minute, he did an excellent call together with his assistant, it was a contra-attack by Botswana and Ghana´s defender made a foul outside the penalty area, also when the player came down in it he saw perfectly that the foul was outside. The red card was also in the same action, because the defender avoided a clear choice of scoring. Badara has only problems with some movements in the field; he was sometimes too close to the actions. He has a good presence in the field and the players respected his decisions. His physical condition is amazing; I had some long time in which I did not see a ref running so fast also in the last stages of the game. The two yellow cards he gave were ok, but I think he could have given one or two more. His presence calmed the players fast and with out protesting (see 77 min). The control of the match was also ok, and the difficulty of it was reasonable (7,0). Diatta only had problems with some fouls, but nothing he could no review before being called to a FIFA tournament (If FIFA wants to call him off course)
Other matches (?)
I would give Diatta two more matches, maybe 3, depends of the other refs, but I think and other group stage and at least a semifinal or quarterfinal could be secured. I hope FIFA saw this match, because Diatta could be the solution we where looking for. I want to test him in other difficult match, maybe the final if the other refs stay on that level?
