The man from the Seychelles came to the World Cup, and this was probably the biggest day of his referee career, but Eddy disappointed in this match. Before the match he made some gestures and seemed to be very nervous, and that nervousness was felt in his decisions in this match.
Eddy likes to whistle, and he uses it when it is not necessary, but for some important things in this match he didn't use whistle. At the start of the match his second assistant signalized a foul by a Honduras player but he stood at least one meter away from the Chilean player ( I'm not a fan of giving yellows for diving as Marco Rodriguez did it in Germany match, but this one deserved it). After this mistake that Tunisian assistant made a few more, so as a team the referees didn't look well. This was just first mistake in many on this match i judgment of fouls and cards. Maillet on this match had awful foul judgment, so he didn't award two fouls in good position for Chilean near the Honduras box. In both situation Eddy had a good wive and stay near but he didn't react. Why? He is in good physical condition , he was near the action ,in one situation even ball hit him, so this is unanswered question because he awarded much minor contacts as foul. In first minute of second half one very disputable situation in Chilean box, when player in sliding tackle took a ball but also players leg. This was 50/50 situation to award penalty, and some referees would award penalty for this , but also this tackles are from referee domain. Something about yellows on this WC is not clear to me. Why referees count fouls which some player commit. So Maillet gave caution for Palacios after just one minor , but he clearly show that was his third. If referees get direction that after consecutive fouls gives a player yellows for minor fouls , we need to change a laws of the game.
Assistant and handball
After his Tunisian assistant who was not the best, and Maillet too, a few good words for his Cameroon assistant. This man made no mistakes, and was the best of the team.
A Honduras player also appealed for a penalty after a Chilean player's hand was hit by the ball. In this situation Maillet was right because the Chilean couldn't react and his hand stayed on his stomach, and in this situation referees shouldn't award a penalty.
Even many teams on this WC play too defensive, too much Mourinho-philosophy, in this match the Chileans tried to score. They did it once with luck, but they couldn't score from 100% chances. Honduras is too weak to play an important role in this competition.
