The comic books series Tintin was mainly set in inter world wars Europe. The hero, Tintin, was always ahead of a couple of bungling detectives, Thomson and Thompson, in detecting criminals and solving cases. It seems Mr. Craig Thomson is a descendant of one of these inept detectives. Ar Ross might well be a distant relative of the other.
The refereeing team
The game was barely one minute old when Ibrahimovich spate of nasty fouls which ended in minute 90'+1'.me weren't detected - those where arms and elbows were used (for example, 40'), others where his legs did the damage, were penalised on a tem's level, but the man himself got away with it or at most was talked to (35')but never cautioned. Seven others were cautioned, one of them (rodriguez
of Porto, 84') after throwing the desparately when the ref. robbed his team, a third time in a row (the previous cases - 65', 67'). Two others were booked after a flir-up involving about a dozen players of both teams in second half stoppage time, which indicates Mr. thomson was not in full control of the match, though it was not a too difficult one to handle. There were also mistakes in foul detection (the gravest one - not penalising a Porto player for using his arm to handle the ball in the air inside the french team's penalty-area, 25').
Assistant referee Ross had an awful evening. In many cases in the first half, PSG players looked suspiciously offside, the flag wasn't raised and the ar got away with because there was no replay. In minute 18', it looked like Thomson whistling for offside without the flag being raised inbefore. in minute 43, a PSG player in a clear offside position interfered as to prevent Porto's goalie from holding the ball and he had to twist it behind for a corner-kick. Both the referee and the ar didn't see two touches by Porto defenders before the ball went over the goal-line, and awarded a goal-kick instead of a corner-kick. Luckily, once in a blue moon an aar (Clancy) proved valuable by correcting the mistake made by his colleagues. Ar Rose was very good, especially in offside/onside decisions, but he as well as the ref and aar Mcleane didn't react to the Porto handball mentioned above (25').
