A very big match was played at Signal Iduna Park, especially after the results of the first 2 matchdays. Real with 2 wins was leading the Group and Dortmund with 1 win and 1 draw was second. So the importance of the match was very high. However the match was quite fair, without many dangerous tackles and with a very good pace which allowed us to observe 3 goals. Dortmund was happy to open the score but Real managed to equalize after only 2 minutes (36â-38â). At the second half the match became even better with Dortmund scoring the 2-1 at min. 64 and losing important opportunities for a third goal.
Kassai started the first half with the way he should. He whistled only 4 fouls at the first 20 minutes of the game. That resulted in a very good match pace and 2 goals. He chose not to issue any card until min. 45â but he could have done it when Modric (REAL) made a reckless tackle at Gotze (BVB). Kassai warned only verbally Modric.
The second half was more interesting since Dortmund really wanted to score a second goal and they succeeded it at min. 64â. Kassai continued at the same style by whistling only the fouls he felt that needed. After only 2 minutes on the second half Kassai had to issue his first YC when Sergio Ramos made a studs-up foul Schmelzer (BVB). After that he could issue a YC to Hummels when he made a studs-up foul on Ozil. It was a matter of consistency since he had already issued a similar YC. At the last 20 minutes of the game Kassai had some issues. First he gave a very easy foul to Dortmund (Pepe â Reus min. 71) which IMO wasnât warranted. One difficult occasion happened at min. 78. Schmelzer (BVB) was marked by Pepe (Real) and fell about 2 meters from the goal-line. AAR 2 Mihaly Fabian saw the whole incident since it was in front of him and decided it wasnât anything. Correct decision. A similar situation happened at min. 82 when Hummels (BVB) tried to enter the penalty area and was marked by Xabi Alonso (Real) and fell. Replay showed that the Real Player hit the ball first so a corner-kick was the correct desicion. Some minor mistakes at the last 10â of the game (a missed foul for Dortmund min. 84 and a YC and an advantage to a foul at 86â which was missed) cannot spoil his good performance.
The first assistant did 2 big mistakes. First he called offside (min. 41â) on Gatze (BVB) who was ready for shot (player was at least 2 meters onside) and his second mistake was an offside at min. 74 on Higuain (Real) when at least 2 defenders were behind him. So his performance is satisfactory but with important areas for improvement. The second assistant had only 2 offsides. Both correct so expected level performance. He made a seemingly small mistake when he gave a foul for Dortmund (min. 71) which wasn't warranted at least for me.
