| Serbia | - | Ghana |
Surely, we expected much more from both Serbia and Ghana... but, same as the rest of the games we've seen during this World Cup, this one was a poor match. But from Baldassi, I saw really what I've expected: a solid performance, based on a great ability to show his authority, without becoming authoritarian. I wouldn't say it was a masteclass because the game wasn't so difficult. But, also with a good job by the assistants, the Argentinians built a really strong performance.
Accuracy
Baldassi was correct in almost all key actions in the game. He booked properly, without showing yellows for silly things, but letting players know he wasn't going to tolerate any dirty playing. There was no discussion about Lukovic's red card after a double-yellow (you can´t hold an opponent like that in the middle field if you are currently booked...).
A real team
The assistants also did a great job. They were OK when flagging, but also with the penalty. When Kuzmanovic touched the ball with his fist (by the way, maybe he confused Sports and should be playing in the Serbian Basketball Team), it looked like Baldassi couldn't see it. But a few seconds later, he conceded the 1st penalty in this World Cup, because assistant Ricardo Casas saw it and told the referee. Perfect.
1-0
The game didn't show much football. But Ghana obtained a deserved victory; the Serbians created just one or two goal opportunities, something insufficient in a group where they will be playing also against the Germans and Australians.
