| Italy | - | Ireland |
What a meaningless war-match...Reckless tackles, pushes by players all match long. What could we expect from referee? A fluent, exciting game ? No... Players had no intension to play football, they were far away from spirit of game. It seems that players believe elbowing, pushing from behind, foot-up tackles without ball are not fouls. Referee meanwhile has showed how to deal with such complaints with a precise grip.
Calls
A remarkable first half with very critical calls has been issued. Cakir has correctly waved it off as no penalty whenever ball hit the shoulder of Irish midfielder in the box.
After that another crucial decision is made in Italian 1st goal with the help of AAR correctly. I believe that here we have obviously seen the tremendeous advantage of having linesmen on goalline. Most probably, AR alone wouldnt be able to decide correctly coz there was a crowd overthere with many players involved in the situation. Meanwhile, there were many fouls with most of them went correctly. Replays showed us that each tackle whistled was not ignorable and correct.
In second half, things gone completely mad. Players having head clash, and one of Italians argues with referee why he had let healthcare team in.puffff...
And later on, a correct foul was whistled, an exaggerated complaint, and most probably a swear as well by Andrews, results in second YC, correctly. This time again Italians expect a penalty. O'Shea attacks toward the ball with a total of uncontrolled weird physical shape. Ballotelli makes his artistic pass, the ball strikes O'Shea's hand, however intent looked minimal. Move-on is an understandable decision, but according to book, it is wrong.
Further steps
Expected runners have been moving towards final stage of tournament. But, a friendly suggestion to Italian team; focus on football, rather than its fragment's neutral decisions.
