After Björn Kuipers did not appear in the last weeks' Champions-League Play-Offs, it was no real surprise that the Dutchmen was appointed for Monaco's annual UEFA Supercup Final. Last years, only experienced referees who had already reached their zeniths were appointed (Larsen, Plautz, Busacca..), this time, there was a referee with a widely opened future (to my mind)..
In general, one has to point out the perfomance of both assistant referees, they were simply outstanding. They had many situations to solve which were pretty close, one time, Zeinstra was wrong, but the rest was superb. Kuipers had some minor mistakes; I have to focus on three situations now: Kuipers should have awarded a penalty for Porto in the 79th minute, his AAR1 should have seen it...well Mr Collina, do we really see more? Then, the red cards: both absolutely correct and I was content with the straight red card for Guarin. Thanks to SCR, I totally forgot the advantage situation: natural, humane, nice to see how he was apologizing for his decision...no mistake at all.
It was boring for 80 minutes, Barca had luck several times, overall, it was a typical UEFA Supercup Final..
I do not know whether we saw the same situation and the same foul, but this was one of the most obvious straight reds I saw in the last weeks..:)
