Calls: As gefluegel (whom I highly appreciate) has anticipated, I totally disagree with the detection and handling of the Cuadrado-Ramos incident - Ramos, notorious for his disrespect to other players, did it again, deserved a second yellow card. Quadrado should

Style: Not keen on his style.

Fitness: Never spectacular. Could have "borrowed" 4th official's (Mzic) fitness.

Positioning: Not too bas. However, almost perfect positioning, and a clear view didn"t prevent him from issuing the second yellow to Quadrado.

General assessment
Borsch lookes solid and stable, Lupp less so (though not to be blamed for not interpreting Ramos's behaviour as sheer simulation).

Refs and great matches

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2016 - 2017 final:
Juventus - Real Madrid, 1 - 4. Cardiff City Stadium, Cardiff, Wales, 2017-06-03

It's so easy for an experienced ref to drown in such a match: Be too strict, you kill the game, be too tame players do as they please. So it was interesting to see how Felix Brych would rise to the occasion. In summary: He didn't. So his performance was a mixed message: Not great, but not a complete disaster in my opinion.

The first 30 minutes
Brych started really well with a clear line and he showed no fear towards issueing warnings and cards. He diffused tensions between some of the hot pundits on the field in a very effective manner. Germans refs are usually disliked because they have a rather authoritative approach and don't like to discuss with half a dozen players around them. Brych is not as stern as Wolfgang Stark who retired this summer, but he's from the Bavarian school of rather direct and harsh communication. I personally believe, in a match with an Italian and a Spanish team who like to complain about almost everything this is per se not a bad thing. He took no "nonsense" and made it clear who made the decisions. So in this field, full marks from me.

Concentration issues and consistencies of calls
Felix Brych is a clearminded ref with a focus on match flow rather than whistling for every minor foul. He has done this on occasions (see WC 2014 for example), but hasn't looked consistant when he applies a rather narrow frame. He doesn't make outstanding performances like Clattenburg for example but is a rather safe hand on average without too many mistakes usually. He is fit, but has some concentration issues like he showed in this match. After 35 minutes of a flawless performance, he drifted off a bit and seemed to lose focus a bit (wrong corner kick, missed YC and the Ronaldo handball in the wall after a freekick). This is also typical of Brych; He is good and solid, but he is not absolutely top notch in all departments getting everything right.

He came back after 60 minutes
He kept control of the match which is the most important thing to me. He came back after the two Madrid goals just in time. The amount of eight cautions seemed okay and justified to me - the players booked on the whole deserved to be booked. You can argue always if the foul or action justifies the card in the scene but in my mind this worked well.

The sending off issue...
Can you send off a player in a CL final? Of course you can. You must, because if you go into the match excluding a possible personal sanction right away you end up with a complete mess. Did Cuadrado deserve a second yellow? Yes, because he walked onto the foot of Sergio Ramos after the tackling being already on a yellow. TV camera did not show the contact, but there are images available showing the contact. Can you send off Sergio Ramos for too much playacting? Yes, you could, but I doubt you would in such a situation. So no obvious mistake to me, although many people will argue the ref killed the game. But come on: Turin was dead after the 3:1 and didn't try at all to come back until five minutes from time. Too little too late for me to beat Real on the night.

How was Felix?
Solid, in control and a bit harsh sometimes with some inconsistencies in a CL final. Still good for me, but no outstanding marks as a result from the middle of the match.
