| Netherlands | - | Albania |
In the 42nd minute, Albanian player Lala got hurt. Clearly in pain, he got so angry at Dutch midfielder De Jong that he he got up from the stretcher. His mates had to stop him and he was carried of the field, blood on his leg. Only then it appeared to referee Yefet that the foul by De Jong was a little more grave than he had thought, so he showed him a yellow card - at least two minutes after the fact. One would say that a referee should make his decisions instantly, what if Lala hadn't screamed? But then again, maybe Yefet was right after all.
obvious
In the second half referee Alon Yefet had a few words with Van Bronckhorst. The dutchman wanted to tell him his decision had been wrong, but Yefet, as he should, waved it off. "I'm the referee here", he seemed to be saying,"I decide what's good and what's bad". As if the obvious needed to be stated.
no
Alon Yefet isn't the world's best referee, he (and his assistants) missed a couple of hands balls, a clear one in the Albanian box, and he made quite a few wrong decisions. Also Yefet seemed to be far from the action a lot of times. But he did know about Arjen Robben, the eternal diver, and he didn't fall for his antics.
match
Number six of the world againt guys called Lala, Tinkywinky, Haxhi, Tare, Aliaj and Po. 70% possession but hardly any shots on goal.
