Everything went well. The game was easy to control. Supporters behaved well and players were not trying to damage each other. A game not very interesting to watch. Bordeaux was defending and hoping for that one counter attack. PSV tried their best, but didn't create much chances.
Benquerenca refereed well. Giving advantages and letting the game flow. Benquerenca did his best not to kill the game, did not book players for minor fouls. But then in the 84th minute, he showed PSV player Lamay a red card. We could see the linesman looking, he wasn't sure, but Benquerenca saw Lamay's elbow punching air all over the place. A clean brutal attack on oxygen with no Bordeaux player in sight.
If you give a penalty, you should be sure about it. If you send off a player, you should be sure as well. I've been looking at the replays a couple of time, but till now, I haven't got a clue why Benquerenca did it. Luckily this booking didn't effect the game. I wonder if Benquerenca has some kind of record about these kind of strange decisions. Maybe he has a bunch of beetles in his head, some kind of blackout buzzing, has to come out sometime...
