Chelsea were denied a place in the Champions League final by Barcelona, with a lot of help from Tom Henning Ovrebo. He had a terrible match, though there was no excuse for the way the Chelsea men confronted the Norwegian after the final whistle.
Where is the penalty area?
Alves brought down Malouda a good yard inside the penalty area. Ovrebo gave a free kick just outside. Absolutely inexpicable, given that Ovrebo actually had one foot in the box. A basic, costly error.
Handball? And another one?
Ten minutes from time Pique handled in the Chelsea box. As clear a handball as ever seen. Then in the dying breaths Chelsea had another clear case for handling in the area. Again nothing given. Weak refereeing.
After Rosetti messed up with the Darren Fletcher dismissal last night, Ovrebo matched it tonight sending off Barcelona's Abidal for an apparent challenge on Anelka, although the striker tripped up over his own feet.
The refereeing in both semi final second legs has been dreadful. Rosetti was bad last night, but Ovrebo was even worse tonight. The referee for the final will now be under massive pressure, and Frank de Bleeckere must be the only genuine option for that match.
Chelsea should be ashamed
The reaction of the Chelsea players after the match was dispicable. I am sure Ovrebo made his decisions in good faith, and he did not deserve to be confronted by Terry and co. Didier Drogba should receive especially heavy punishment for his ridiculous attack on the referee. He should also be ashamed by his general behaviour in the game.
