| Villarreal | - | Manchester United |
For the fourth meeting in a row Man Utd have drawn with Villareal. This game was a bit more exciting though; and United showed some of their true quality and class at times. Ronaldo was denied by a combination of Lopez and the crossbar. Rooney, Anderson and Fletcher all had good shots denied. A straight red for Villareal's Capdevila added to the drama late-on.
Strict but fair
Rosetti was, as per normal, quite strict. However, it would be hard to argue with any of his decisions. The players are reluctant to disagree with Rosetti, due to his physical presence and this allows him to control the game with ease. In fact, the only thing he missed was Rooney's blatant dive, which should have picked up a caution for unsporting behaviour.
In charge
When Rosetti referees you get the sense he has no idea who is playing - they are all just another player or another team to him. This allows him to supply the laws without fear or favour, and means he earns the respect of the teams. His accurate decision making also helps in this regard. As such Rosetti is in command on the field without intruding on the game too much.
Praise from Sir Alex
Alex Ferguson gave Rosetti high praise fr being strong throughout the match. He was referring mostly to the decision to dismiss Capdevila for a high and heavy tackle on Ronaldo.while this decision was unpopular with the home crowd, Rosetti was absolutely correct to brandish a second yellow followed by the red.
