Both teams started the game enthusiastically with a gusto for attacking football and scoring goals. But after about 20 minutes we witnessed a sudden meltdown of enthusiasm and flare, and the game has become a scrappy and unimaginative encounter. Though the Dutch held possession for longer spells but didn't carry out any real threat on their opponents' goal. The Turkish team were more intimidating whenever they got possession, and close to the end clinched the winner through a substitute (89', Fernandao).
Borbalan and his team
It was not a difficult game to be handled. That said, Fernandez Borbalan adopted the perfect attitude to bring it peacefully through. Neither fussy nor pompous, almost no mistakes at foul-detection, great application of the advantage rule (e.g. 21', 67'). The senior ar, Mr. Pau Cebrian had some difficult offside decisions to make. As they were so marginal, one should accept his judgement. On the other hand, raising the flag for a free-kick in favour of Fener' (58') was a more questionable decision. Running the other touch-line was the novice on international stage, Mr. Diego Barbero, who had a very decent game.
