Larsen is one of Worldreferee favorite referees, but even he and his unconvincing assistants made a huge mistake.
Larsen and moving
Larsen had trouble moving on the field because of his additional assistants referees. He kept his old style of movement in the diagonal way, needless with new assistants, because they also have their responsibility. In the second half Larsen adjusted to the situation with a different style of moving, but it may have been better if he stayed with the old one. Larsen's additional assistant Rasmussen had a better view on one situation in the Liverpool box when one Lille player was fouled by Carragher and he signalized that nothing had happened. But I'm sure that Larsen would have seen that situation differently if he had the old diagonal way of moving.
Maybe Larsen would not award a penalty because he missed many little fouls, but that is part of his style, even he awarded many more fouls then usual. In other part Larsen had a good match with four yellows, one for diver Torres and the three other ones were also o.k.
Sepp Blatter said no to video-technology. But the assistants have instructions to give advantage to the attacker when in doubt. Larsen's assistant signaled two times offside and canceled one goal and one promising chance for Lille. Both times they were wrong, but if they had technology, the referees would much easier make a difficult decision because they know that they can fix a mistake or confirm a right decision, but with people like Sepp and Michel at the helm not for a 100 years.
Both teams had their one chances, but one bad reaction of the Liverpool defense and the goalkeeper, gave Lllle a nice result for the second match.
