| Ecuador | - | Germany |
Fifa bosses in their wisdom gave fate a hand and took care that Germany was put together with Poland, Ecuador and Costa Rica in one group. With such teams even the Far Oer or Belgium could have ended second behind the host country.
anyway
Anyway, Russian referee Vladimir Ivanov did such a bad job last week that the referee commity gave him a warning. This could be his last big match. (It probably is, considering his age). Ivanov who was suspended once for coming back on his decision (a goal) was a bit hesitant sometimes. "I think the ball was over the line", his body language seemed to be saying, "What do you think? Not? You sure? But I already whistled. Sorry".
not much
There's not much more to say about Ivanov's performance. The players behaved themselves, there were no handballs or off-side goals, only a few yellow cards and Germany's Schweinsteiger kicked Kaviedes in the face and Ecuadorian Guagua put his elbow against Ballack's nose. But not on purpose. So they said.
and
Well Germany played well, and the other team didn't have a chance.
