This was one of the biggest matches in this round of qualifiers, and it was given one of UEFA's top referees. Frank de Bleeckere was not as good as normal, but was still very good, and displayed all the qualities a referee should.
One Point of Contention
The only real matter for debate was the sending off of Vyntra. His first yellow was for a bad foul on Barnetta, and there could be no questions. The second yellow is the issue that will divide opinion. As Barnetta prepared to take a corner de Bleeckere warned Vyntra and Ludovic Magnin about shirt pulling. Then Vyntra immediately tugged at Magnin's shirt again. de Bleeckere had had enough and brought out the second yellow. I think he was right to do this. If he hadn't warned first then it would have been very harsh. The warning means Vyntra can have no defence in my view.
