| Gremio | - | Boca Juniors |
In a not very well played final, Boca did their business in Brazil and won their 6th Copa Libertadores (4th in last 8 years). Now, the "Xeneize" is the team with most international championships to their name in the world: 17.
The Final
It was difficult for Gremio to convince themselves there was a possibility of winning the Libertadores after the 0-3 defeat in the Bombonera. Last week, we said that the final "may seem to be over and done with". Well, it was over. Gremio didn´t know how to even begin and didn't seem to have any strategy.
Boca went there to play and to take control of the ball. They took advantage of Gremio´s nerves and played using them to their own benefit.
Gremio strategy, failed
After having complained about Larrionda, Gremio´s leadership tried, during the last days, to press Óscar Ruiz with aggressive media speeches. This, of course, wasn´t effective. Ruiz was determined to be neutral in Brazil. He managed to referee in a very calm and effective way. There were mistakes, but not very big ones.
Penalty
A really big Riquelme played an excellent match. He led Boca during all the Libertadores matches, and also in this last game. With the match 2-0, Schiavi pushed Palermo near his own goalkeeper and Ruiz, correctly, conceded a silly penalty. Then Palermo failed to score.
Qualified for Clubs World Cup
As the American Champion, Boca will play this international tournament during December in Japan. Milan is also there, because of being European King. Perhaps, just like in 2003, we will have an exciting Boca-Milan world final.
