| Netherlands | - | Cote d'Ivoire |
Ruiz looked all puffed up and stressed out for most of the match. He was probably somewhat out of his league here. He also made quite a few questionable and dead wrong calls.
A quick rundown
Didier Drogba needs a hand to control a ball in the fourth minute which escapes Ruiz. Giovanni van Bronckhorst tussles with Eboue in the box. Not seen by Ruiz. A handbal by van Persie in the 64th minute. Not seen by Ruiz. Eboue goes down in the box after a sliding from van Bronchorst. A rather dramatic display perhaps, but van Bronckhorst seems to miss the ball. So either it's a yellow to Eboue or it's a penalty. Ruiz says it's a corner kick. His decision to book Robben for diving in the 33rd minute was also debatable.
A draw?
The Dutch barely managed to win this match. They had to compete with some tough and skillful players. It seems a draw would have been the right outcome of this match. In the end van Persie saved the day: He was all over the place, scored once, and was also there to clear the ball from his own goal.
