This is our friend edward report: Before the start of the Group Stage of Champions League no one could imagine that this match could mean so many things to this group. Apoel is having a great season at CL and even drawed Porto at the first match. So normally UEFA appointed an Elite Referee like Gianluca Rocchi.
Even though I am not a big fan of Rocchi for some previous matches (Standard Liege-Panathinaikos, Galatasarai - Atletiko Madrit and Cyprus - Portugal) at this match mr Rocchi was very good. He had a very good foul detection and showed cards where he thought were needed.
Mr Rocchi gave 2 penalties. IMO both are correct. At the first one Ailton was brought down inside the area by Mangala and Rocchi pointed at the spot. At the second occasion at 88' Porto won a penalty when James Rodriguez was brought down inside the penalty area. Rocchi was correct again.
Apoel 2nd Goal.
By my first impression it looked as an offside at the beginning. The replay showed I was correct. The 2nd goal was a mistake by Mr Nikoletti and should have been dissallowed.
It was a very good performance by mr Rocchi with the exception of the 2nd Goal for APOEL.
