Behind top referee Jorge Larrionda, Martin Emilio Vázquez Broquetas has been Uruquay's second choice for quite a while.
He is a CONMEBOL Elite category referee.

since
Vazquez has been active on the international scene Since 2001. He has been officating Libertadores matches and World Cup preliminaries.

Beijing and South Africa
His highest honour so far must have been his election for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

2010
Until Februari 2010 Martin Vazquez was on the short list of referees for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. However he did not appear on the final one, was selected anyway after Carlos Amarilla's assistant failed the test (by which Amarilla himself was excluded as well), but the Uruguayan never got to take charge of a match.

2014
At the beginning his name was not even on the first short list of the WC, but then, he was lucky again. Roberto Silvera failed the fitness test and quit to his dream of being Uruguay's WC ref. Then Dario Ubriaco got again an injury and was out several months giving Vazquez the chance of coming into the list and having, again, the big chance of refereeing in a WC.
