Cüneyt Çakir was selected for the seventh UEFA talents and mentors seminar as member for the Refereeing talent group. This event took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon between 8 and 10 May 2007.

On March 17 2007, goalie Bülent Ataman attacked Cüneyt Çakir ripping his shirt during the Vestel Manisaspor-Sakaryaspor game. Çakir suspended the game in the 37th minute while Ataman was banned for 12 games by the Turkish Soccer Federation.
Cakir also got hit in the face by the keeper trainer.

One of his first (serious) international matches was the UEFA cup qualifier Vaduz-Ujpest in 2006. Piece of cake, you'd think, but Cakir showed 9 yellow cards and sent off two players, one from each team.
