Paul Allaerts became a referee in 1985 and made his debut in the highest Belgian league in 1996. He was one of UEFA's premier referees and has been that for a long time, never able to reach the elite category. Allaerts retired at the end of 2009, when he was 45.
Paul Allaerts received his FIFA badge in 2000. His first international appearance was in in a Croatia versus Austria match for players under 18. Next to performing in the Belgian league, Allaerts officiates in the first Dutch League.
He officiated in the UEFA Cup and had his Champions League debut in 2002 when he took charge of two matches.
From 2012 Allaerts is a talent developer for UEFA.
