Bas Nijhuis started refereeing when he was only fifteen years old. Standing in the middle of the pitch one day he instantly knew that this was the world he wanted to belong to.
Nijhuis learned the craft at an early age. His father was a referee as well. So in a way, despite his young age, Nijhuis has been around for a while. Nijhuis received his FIFA badge in 2007.
Nijhuis moved up to the Elite Development category in January 2012.
In 2011 he was selected for the u17 World Cup in Mexico.
In October 2011 Nijhuis was suddenly assigned a Champions League match. UEFA must have received some good reports, but also the fact that his higher-up colleague Kevin Blom didn't do well in the CL a month earlier may have something to do with it.
