Mario Gasc first match in the highest division was in 1960. He was a FIFA referee from 1963. Gasc retired in 1973 because of the political chaos in Chile. He also retired from his job in publishing and took up writing a sports column and became the manager of Union Espanola.
His dad was a football and boxing referee and Mario Gasc used to be a player. He was a bit of a rough character on the field and when he realized there were e always problems with referees who were just not good enough for him, he decided to become one himself.
But Mario Gasc may be most well known for his appearance on television. For 16 years Gasc vented his opinion on referees and players in a section called 'Las jugadas polémicas' in the program Zoom Deportivo.
