Frank de Bleeckere

2012-02-17

A third generation referee, Belgian Frank de Bleeckere started as a football player, but too often injured he decided to change his career. Belgian's World Cup record holder with 7 matches had to retire at the end of 2011 because of the age limit.

International
Frank de Bleeckere started in 1984 and got his FIFA badge in 1998. He worked his way up from the amateurs to the very top, which is - as he stated in an interview - the best way to become a good referee.

matches
The list is too long, please see his palmares. Frank has been everywhere and seen everything, but there is one thing missing: an important final.
We will never know for sure how far he would have gone, but the reason why the Belgian referee did not reach the semis (or higher) in the 2010 World Cup was the fact that both Belgian's neighbour countries, Germany and The Netherlands reached the last 4.

2012
In 2012 Frank got a job with FIFA as one of the 16 "Refereeing Technical Advisosr".
