The Dutch referee boss Jaap Uilenberg is a bit of a controversial character. As a referee he took the then referee boss to court to change the retirement age for officials. Uilenberg won and was allowed to go on for 5 years at 49.
Uilenberg is also member of the UEFA referees' committee.
boss
Journalists as well as referees have been critical of him and Uilenberg has been accused of designating important matches to refs who don't disagree with him. The fact that he punished referees for their dissent by not assigning matches to them and by doing so taking away part of their pay, made him rather powerful.
dictators
we found a couple of international matches for Uilenberg. One was the 1994 WC qualifier Iraq - North Korea (Saddam Hussein vs Kim Jong Il).
