Kreitlein sent off the Argentina captain Antonio Rattin during a 1966 World Cup match between England and Argentina at Wembley. Rattin refused to leave the field and this confusion eventually led to the introduction of red and yellow cards in football in the 1970 World Cup. Kreitlein died in 31. July 2012.
Even though Fuerth born Rudolf Kreitlein's refereeing career may not look impressive: only 66 matches in the Bundesliga between 1963 and 1969 and only six years a FIFA badge holder (1962-1967), the matches he took charge of were important ones indeed. Two matches in the 1966 World Cup finals - one a quarter-final - and the final of the 1966 European Cup.
