Three World Cup finals and four Olympic Games tournaments, an international career lasting more than 20 years, Istvan Zsolt must have been an amazing referee in his time. But if you Google him now the only people who seem to remember him are the Germans because of the semi -final Sweden - Germany in 1958.
This is what the Germans say: Zsolt sent off (there were no red cards in those days) German defender Juskowiak but failed to send off a Swedish player for a bad foul. Then another German player more or less stopped playing because of an injury. Since substitutions were not allowed in 1958, the Germans went on to play with 9 players and lost 3-1.
Istvan Szolt did not take charge of World Cup matches for a while after that, getting his come back in 1966.
Istvan Zsolt died in 1991.
