Yellow Card

Three times World Cup finals referee, Kurt Tschenscher was the first referee ever to show a yellow card. In fact he showed it 5 times, in the opening match of the 1970 World Cup finals in Mexico between the hosting country and the Soviet Union.

career
Referee since 1948 and DFB referee from 1953 till 1975 and FIFA referee from 1958 till the end of 1975.
Tschenscher officiated in three World Cup finals: 1966, 1970, 1974 (semi-finals) and in the 1968 European Championships.
He took charge of quite a few final matches:
Poland - Hungary (1972, Olympic Games)
Atletico - AC Firenze (1962, European Cup Winners Cup)
Celtic - Inter (1972, European Cup)
In 1971 Kurt Tschenscher got the honour to referee at Pele's last match.
Next to having a job as an insureance sales man he was in the council of the city of Mannheim, then West-Germany.
