This great Hungarian referee won the gold medal as a player with his national team at the Olympic Games in 1964 and returned as a referee 12 years later.

And as if that wasn't enough Palotai saw his share of important matches too. He partook in three World Cups (1974, 1978, 1980), took charge of two European Cup finals ('78, '81) and one UEFA Cup final in 1975.
Karoly Palotai played for Gyori ETO FC and Freiburg. He was a FIFA refere from 1970 till the end of 1984.
