
At only 31 and 6 years as a FIFA referee, Alan Snoddy was appointed to referee at the 1986 World Cup. He took charge of one match and was an assistant (lines man in those days) in 4. Four years later he sat in his car and heard on the radio he was appointed to the 1990 World Cup as well. Again he took charge of one match.

After his retirement Alan Snoddy became a referee observer and a referee assessor, a kind of mentor for young referees. Snoddy is now the IFA referees development officer
