You get as many hits with Armand as with Amand, but his real name is Amand, without the r. Amand Ancion was a FIFA referee in the 1990s.
Considered one of the better refs in Belgium, Ancion lost it completely in a match Westerlo - Genk in 1999. In that match Ancion gave 5 penalties, showed 12 yellow cards and sent off 4 players. He whistled for 51 fouls. There were 12 goals, 6 each.
But there was more: November 24 1998, Monaco - Marseille, 10 yellows 2 reds, UEFA didn't like that.
In Belgium 1999 Ancion was suspended for a while to be able to come back with a "better physical and moral condition"
There has always been some controversy about the Belgian referee. For instance he was not allowed to take charge of matches with Moeskroen (their manager belonged to the same party: Christian Democrats) and some 4 more teams did not want him after he told a newspaper he'd been a life long fan of Anderlecht.
According to Belgian newspapers and sites, Amand Ancion never "speaks" or "states", he "yells". Once Belgium's number one referee, Ancion slowly turned into a laughing stock, who was banned for life, then demoted to a very low division, then reinstated. After he canceled a valid goal in 2000, he resigned. Internationally he was taken off the FIFA list after his suspension in 2000.
Ancion is or used to ba active in French speaking politics in Belgium. He moved from a Christian democratic to a more right wing party, but his name doesn't show up on their site.
