
Lewis started as a lines man at 25 in 1969. From 1975 he was a full referee. Premier League 1992-1993 and FIFA panel 1989-1991.
Hillsborough
Lewis took charge of a few national semi-finals, one of them was the 1989 FA Cup semi between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest: the Hillsborough disaster.
95 people were killed (one more died in hospital) and 766 injured in the crush resulting from bad control by stewards and the police, drunken fans and bad stadium design. All dead and injured where Liverpool fans.
