
A general manager of a tourism company in Cairo, Mahmoud Ashour ended his football career and became a referee in 1997. He received his FIFA badge in 2011 and immediately started his international career as he participated to the Nile Basin Tournament in Egypt in January 2011, and few months later to the Arab U20 Championship in Morocco (July 2011).
A promising football player first
Before he became one of the best referees in Egypt, Mahmoud Ashour was a football player. He even played for the Egyptian U17 national team. His football career also included some prestigious Egyptian clubs such as Al Ahly and Zamalek.
